Tree Hugger

13 08 2012

I was recently enlisted to develop an eLearning module to teach people not to print so much. I didn’t refuse, so much as to suggest alternatives, since we all know that we shouldn’t print, and we all know how to reduce our paper and ink usage if we really must print. The outcome was a couple of graphics, starting with this Gorey-like tree, which will ask the user if they wouldn’t like to print double sided and multiple pages per sheet. This will pop up on the user’s screen along with the print properties box. If the user changes settings, the image changes to a different image with silly green tree, falling apples and hopping bunnies.

The whole thing is intended only to remind users in a friendly sort of way. Ultimately, I’d like for the company to share the images and code with any interested companies. Waste paper is a problem for most employers, so why not create a resource exchange in which we can share tools on all sorts of topics.
