The First Cut

4 06 2008

This is Rick, making the first cut. I can’t remember when ‘The Slab’, as we’ve come to call it, arrived in the shop, but it’s been sitting there on the sawhorses for a few weeks. We’ve turned it over, turned it around, poked and prodded the thing, trying to decide what it will become. We’ve talked it over and we’ve just stood there, looking at it in silence. Obviously, it took us awhile to come round to the point of cutting off this live edge. As the beautician in Lars and the Real Girl so wisely pointed out, “It won’t grow back.”
