Bon Voyage

6 11 2007

My friends Kate and Jeanette left for Japan this morning, which will be about 6,693 miles of airline travel, one-way, according to United Airlines. That should give them just enough time for a longish novel, several games of sudoku, three bad airline meals and a few trips to those freaky airplane bathrooms. I’m a little worried that by the time they return in two and half weeks, airline service will be reduced to something similar to a metro bus. I see them standing for twelve hours, leaning against a chrome pole, receiving regular jabs in the ribs from some lady’s oversized handbag. But probably not.

Or, on the other hand, they may have the most seamless travel experience either of them has ever known. Said Pollyanna. I think they’ll have a wonderful time.
