Payless Shoes

7 08 2007

I know it’s a bit of a leap from the trig lesson to yellow patent leather sandals, but that’s just how things are going to go. I’m driving this bus, after all. I realize you can jump off at any time, but I hope that together we’ll walk that fine line between terror and fascination.

But back to the shoes. I’ve been doing contract work for Payless ShoeSource for the past year and I’ve come to really appreciate their shoes.  I bought these today for approximately $9.00. That’s right – for the pair. I used to be concerned about my contribution to landfills, but I’ll admit that yellow patent leather with clear plastic and silver accents puts that right out of my head.

The thing is, the folks at Payless are accustomed to seeing everything from Chanel to plastic, but even they were taken in by these shoes. I bought them at lunchtime today and they were stopping traffic all afternoon. Some people stared, some laughed, some grimaced, some pretended not to notice, but Graylin hit the nail on the head with, “Those things are electric!”  Yep, and they’re mine, all mine.
